At the time, they were running with a different aesthetic than their previous band, and were heavily influenced by the burgeoning trip hop scene. They released a single on the Urban Records label and signed a deal with Mute Records, a subsidiary of EMI. Massive Attack's debut, eponymous album was released in September 1992 and went on to be a monumental influence on trip hop, a genre now synonymous with the album's signature high pitched sound. The British trio worked on three albums for the label between 1993 and 1997, before moving to Mercury. Their second album, Safe From the Rain, was the last to be released on the UK label. That album was a critical success and one of the most played albums in the UK during the decade, and earned them a Mercury Prize nomination
